About Alexander Peijnenborgh

I was born in the Netherlands in 1974, after living there for 21 years I decided to move to Curacao (Netherlands Antilles) and spent my working years there. Since I was 5 years old, I wanted to be an inventor.

With an almost constant gently blowing wind and a always abundantly shinning sun, the island has a lot of potential for green energy. That's why I've been looking for alternative energy source for the last 5 years or so.

Unfortunately this is more or less prohibited by the only utility company on the island. Even more painful is the fact that even though we have a large refinery (read cheap oil) on the island, electricity prices are way above the average and currently about $0.30 a kW. Although the high price, it still not possible to keep electricity going 365 days a year. A few days a year there are hick ups in the system that leave the island in the dark. Therefor many companies have invested in big generators to keep busy during those electricity less days.

It becomes even stranger, because of the relatively good education and standard living, energy consumption is very high, since most people like to drive a big SUV and have won't be able to live without an airco in their home, office and bedroom.

Our utility company does have 2 wind energy farms, producing 130 MWh a day. That is about 3% of the required capacity used on Curacao.
